🇵🇦 I love my Pollera 🇵🇦

The Pollera is the national forkloric dress of Panama!

What makes the Panamainian Pollera stand out, as well as well as eaily identifiable, are the tembleque. Tembleques are a headdress made of pearls or beads attached to a spring so that they tremble when the wearer dances. In Panama, fully handmade polleras are worn during festivals or celebrations. They are mainly made of cotton due to the hot tropical climate. Normally, the dominant color is white, with colorful flower designs as adornments embroidered. Girls and women generally own two polleras during their life: one before age 16 and one in adulthood.

A single pollera can cost from several hundred to several thousand dollars and take up to a year or two to create, depending on its complexity. Gold and pearl jewelry such as mosquetas, combs and tembleques that may be worn with a pollera, are generally passed down as heirlooms through generations. Click here to learn more in this video.
