The World of Udon Noodles

One of the most popular types of noodles to enjoy in Japanese cuisine is udon noodles. Made from wheat flour, salt and water, these thick, chewy noodles are very comforting and can be used in a wide variety of dishes, served hot or cold. Noodles are a large part of Japanese cuisine.

In many Japanese restaurants, udon noodles are typically served in a broth. The noodles easily absorb the flavors of the broth, serving to increase the umami experience of the meal. Other ingredients can be added to the broth, such as various vegetables, braised beef or a raw egg placed on top. Udon noodles can also be served cold with various vegetables and dressings.

Specialties

What to put in the pot 😉

japanese vegetables

Vegetables

For a great taste add hearty vegetables like asparagus, bok choy and meaty mushrooms. The broth is so rich and delicious thanks to a base of garlic, ginger and miso paste. So it's not only tasty (a lot!), but also really healthy.

A splash of soy sauce gives it that umami flavor that everyone craves from Asian noodle soups. So so yummi!

Udon Meat

Meat

You can use whatever your taste is: beef, pork or chicken. The sweetness of the beef topping goes well with the plain udon noodle soup.

Use of light soy sauce makes the colour of the broth lighter. But if you don’t have it, you can use normal soy sauce. You can choose if you want vegetables inside or as a sidedish.

tempeh

Tempeh & Co.

Tempeh will add a ton of nutrients and flavour. This vegan soup has about 30 grams of protein per serving and just a little over 500 calories! it turns out to be very light but filling and nourishing.

And a lot optionals: to bump the taste of our Asian soup we need a few seasonings. We can add lime juice, a bit of soy sauce or some chilli oil.
