In psychology, self-compassion is extending compassion to one's self in instances of perceived inadequacy,failure, or general suffering. American psychologist Kristin Neff has defined self-compassion as being composed of three main elements, self-kindness, common humanity, and mindfulness.

In our societies, where we are taught that the only way to succeed is to work endlessly, tiredlessly,but that work you do is rarely ever good enough! ..Unless you are at the top of your "game", where your self image becomes so distorted by social media and marketing of all things new and shiny and shame on you if you dont have those,the 'whats wrong with you' voice plays over and over in your own head, and the list keeps piling up. These books may help alter your mindset to accept and see yourself as a precious human, deserving of love and patience and that begins with giving that to yourself, fill your cup up first so you can be more for whatever your priorities are in life.
