Kelis was born on 21 August 1979 in Harlem, New York, USA. Kelis Rogers left home at At age 14, she was admitted to New York's Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, where she learned to play the saxophone and won a spot in the Girls Choir of Harlem. she later landed a deal with Virgin four years later. Having linked with emergent production team the Neptunes, she provided background vocals on Noreaga's "Superthug" and was featured on Ol' Dirty Bastard's "Got Your Money." In December 1999, months after the release of the latter single, Kelis made her full-length debut album Kaleidoscope. She then went on to have 8 more albums.
