History

Santa Clarita is a city with lots of history even if it has only been around since 1769 with the arrival of the Spaniards. In 1842, gold was discovered in our valley and in 1876 the first succesful oil well in the West was made and it remains the oldest refinery in the world. The Saugus Cafe (1887) is the oldest operating resteraunt in LA. Santa Clarita is known as Hollywood's backlot with numerous films being created in the valley since 1903, starting with classic Westerns.
