Khreschatyk Street

Khreschatyk Street

The main street of Kyiv, the central street, is a must-see. Only 1.2 kilometers long, but what an adventure! This street is always bustling, and even during the war, Khreshchatyk remains the capital's most visited street. The Kyiv City Council, the Central Department Store, the Kyiv Philharmonic, the Conservatory, two metro stations, administrative buildings, cinemas, shops, hotels, and restaurants are all located on Khreshchatyk.

The Motherland Monument

The Motherland Monument is one of the most prominent symbols of Ukraine's capital. The monument is one of the top 20 tallest statues in the world and thus deserves to be seen. From here, you can get a bird's-eye view of Kyiv. Viewing platforms aid in this: one is located on the pedestal's and the sculpture's border (36 meters), and the other is on the arm with the shield (91 meters).

St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Cathedral

Spectacular building of the St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Cathedral, jutting out into the sky with two slender towers, is one of the most unusual and beautiful buildings in the Old Kyiv. Raised in untypical for Ukraine's capital Neo Gothic style, it significantly stands out against the background of other buildings at the city's downtown and inevitably amazes Kyiv's locals and guests.

Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra

Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra

One of the most well-known and oldest temple complexes in the country, dating back to 1051. You can spend hours here exploring the sacred architecture, the mystery of the caves, and the numerous museums. Whatever you believe, the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra can provide you with some peace of mind.
St. Andrew's Church

St. Andrew's Church

The beautiful St. Andrew's Church was built in 1756 by renowned Italian architect, Bartolomeo Rastrelli, at the request of Queen Elisabeth, daughter of Peter the Great. It’s one of the most beautiful churches in Kyiv, located in the Podil district. To get here, you should walk up Andriyivsky Uzviz which is a major tourist attraction in its own right, lined with stalls selling typical Ukranian souvenirs.

Podil

Podil is one of the city's oldest and most beautiful districts. Today, this area delights visitors with its low-rise houses from the last century, narrow streets, and unique atmosphere. Two ancient squares (Kontraktova and Postova), Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, Gostinny Dvir, Samson fountain, and the lower station of a rare mode of transportation - the funicular - are all concentrated here. There are also many amazing restaurants in the area.

People's Friendship Arch

Peoples' Friendship Arch - opened in 1982 as part of the celebration of Kyiv's 1500th anniversary and the USSR's 60th anniversary. In Soviet times, the monument was known as the Monument to Commemorate Ukraine's Reunification with russia. Since there will never be friendship with russia anymore, the Arch was renamed as the Ukrainian people's Arch of Freedom.

Tips & Tricks in Kyiv

Peremohy Street
  • Plan your visit ahead of time: what you want to see, what restaurants you want to try, and what else you want to do to treat yourself?
  • Yes, you can plan not only traditional tourist activities, but also beauty and health care! Prices in Ukraine are significantly lower than in other countries, but service (believe me) is far superior! It could be anything like stomatology, health checks, beauty treatments, spa, etc.
  • At any time of year, you can find a variety of active sports and entertainment locations! You can find a place to visit by simply searching for something that interests you. If you're not sure what you're up to, try searching experiences on Bodo.
  • If you intend to travel extensively, you can use Uber or rent a car. Rental ua is a service that I and many other locals use.
  • The city has many parks and forest areas. Take a picnic or a bike ride to any of these locations.
  • Pay attention to walls of the buildings in Kyiv. You'll find many stunning murals. To make things easier, follow the map on the official website Kyivmural.
  • Everyone says Kyiv is beautiful in the spring. The combination of blossoming chestnut trees and a cheerful atmosphere is wonderful. But winter in Kyiv is also worth seeing. St. Sophia Square will host the main Christmas Tree. The entire city will be enveloped in the warmth of the holiday season and mulled wine. In addition, there is a ski resort in the city.

War News

Now that we are facing full-scale Russian aggression, Kyiv is not as upbeat. Russia is destroying our country, infrastructure, and lives. At night, Kyiv looks the following way:

But we believe that we will win the war soon, and that once the dark times have passed, we will welcome everyone to Ukraine!
