How a stay-at-home mom learned how to code!
πββοΈ Before SheCodes
Michele is a stay-at-home mom who is working towards achieving her career goals by gaining some coding knowledge! πͺ π» She spent much of her life in Chicago, Illinois, and is currently living in Clermont, Florida.Β
In her free time, she likes to spend time with her daughters doing things like dancing, working on art projects, and staying active. She says that sheβs living mom life 24/7 and spends the majority of her time taking care of her motherly duties.Β
Michele studied communication and media studies in university. After university, she spent many years working in guest services at a few hotel chains and as a Math and Science teacher. She is now dedicated to being a full time mother, but has been yearning to find a career that allows her a lot of freedom and a high salary to help her provide a better future for her daughters. She's thought about pursuing something in the STEM field because of her experience working as a math and science teacher. She knew that in order to do so, sheβd have to gain some coding knowledge.Β
βFor quite some time I had been wanting to do something different as a career that could really allow me to provide for my daughters. I've always been interested in STEM and with my background as a Science and Math teacher...I was so excited when the most beautiful Godsend appeared on my YouTube recommendation about SheCodes.βΒ
After she came across SheCodes on YouTube, she was immediately interested in joining. However, she was worried that as a single mom busy with taking care of her kids, she wouldnβt have time to learn how to code. But after chatting with the SheCodes team, she decided to jump in. π And we couldnβt be happier that she did!!Β
βI found myself wanting to join SheCodes. I worried that as a single mom juggling kids, homeschool, and play time that there would be NO WAY I could do this and not fall behind but after some emails with the team I was reassured that I COULD DO IT and that was the moment I took the plunge.β

After joining the SheCodes free class, Michele thought that SheCodes would be a great fit for her to gain some solid coding skills. πΒ
To ensure that she could reach her coding goals, Michele dedicated some time from her busy schedule to learn how to code - and the flexible schedule of SheCodes helped her stay on track. Micheleβs favorite part of SheCodes was completing the hands-on coding projects, along with learning alongside other women in the SheCodes community. π
βI set out on a mission to start and finish and made sure to do so throughout the course and I can honestly say that I am so proud of all the knowledge I've gained, so proud of myself and being able to say that I didn't allow anything to stop me from working hard, completing challenges and submitting homework on time. I DID IT!β
βMy favorite part of SheCodes was seeing my projects come to life and feeling a sense of accomplishment. Learning with other women has been amazing! The whole experience is top notch! Perfect through and through.β
π How SheCodes has Helped to Change Her Life
Thanks to SheCodes, Michele feels that she can successfully achieve her goals of working in STEM. SheCodes helped give her confidence that she can work as a developer and make her coding dreams come true! π€© She started applying for coding internships shortly after completing SheCodes React.Β
βSheCodes has allowed me to feel the confidence to contact companies and apply for internships in hopes to be a developer. Iβm one step closer to making my dreams come true!β
Michele plans on continuing to add technology and engineering experience to her already-existing science and math experience in order to continue to propel herself forward into the tech industry. She has a goal of combining front-end development work with her experience in customer support. We feel very confident sheβll be able to achieve all of her coding and career goals!! π π©βπ»
π©βπΌ Advice to Future SheCodes Student
Michele says that sheβs had an amazing experience learning how to code with SheCodes! And it was easy to fit her coding work into her busy schedule. Her advice to those thinking about joining SheCodes is to go for it, because you have nothing to lose in learning how to code. Weβd have to agree! πΒ
βCould not be more proud of myself for starting and finishing this amazing journey with SheCodes. I found it on a whim and decided to go for it. At first thinking to myself, will I be able to manage as a single mom of 2 young kids but before I knew BAM! I received my first certification and became even more motivated to continue up until SheCodes React. I have the great pleasure of patting myself on the back for accomplishing the goal that I set and I'm thrilled.β
