Meet Ellen Lesego 🇿🇦! Originally from South Africa, Ellen is passionate about coding and loves to watch coding videos in her free time. Before starting her coding journey, she was unemployed and had the dream of starting her own online store. However, she didn’t have the means to hire a developer. This is what started her desire to learn coding.
“I wanted to start my own online store. Since I couldn't afford to pay developers, the only way to do it was to learn coding.”
One day, a friend told Ellen about the SheCodes Foundation and encouraged her to apply. Intrigued, Ellen researched SheCodes on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, where she was inspired by the projects and success stories of other women. This motivated her to join SheCodes and start her coding journey! 🌟

Ellen's experience with SheCodes was really positive. She found the classes to be particularly helpful, as Matt, the SheCodes instructor, explained coding step by step, making it easier to understand compared to YouTube videos or other online workshops. This clarity and simplicity in teaching is one of the reasons why Ellen loves SheCodes. 🌟
One memorable moment from her SheCodes journey was during her first week of homework. As a newcomer to coding, she found it quite challenging and even funny when she struggled to put a link in her code. Despite the initial difficulties, this experience became a lighthearted memory that marked the beginning of her coding adventure. 😊
🙋🏽♀️ How the SheGrows Foundation has Helped to Change Her Life
After completing the SheCodes Foundation course, Ellen took the initiative to search for internships and submitted her resume to several consulting companies. Two weeks later, she was contacted by Qinfo Consulting Company and began her journey as a Cloud Engineer intern. Her new role required JavaScript, and the company supported her by providing her with further learning opportunities.
After her internship ended, she was hired by the same company to work full-time as a Could Engineer. The skills she gained through SheCodes, especially in JavaScript, were crucial in securing this job and advancing in her current position. 🚀
