How SheCodes helped Kristina transition from accountant to Front-End Engineer 🌟

Meet Kristina 🇺🇦! Originally from Ukraine and now living in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France 🇫🇷, Kristina is a creative person who enjoys running, yoga, ping pong, oil painting, and film photography. Whenever she’s ready to dive into something creative — like writing code — she puts on a pair of wolf ears for a boost of playful motivation. 🐺
Before SheCodes, Kristina worked as an accountant at Coca-Cola HBC for two years. Her job involved processing documents and invoices, using SAP, and improving internal workflows. She mastered her daily tasks to the point where they no longer felt challenging and didn’t see any room for career growth. That’s when she started thinking back to her college days.
Kristina began studying computer science at university but gave it up, thinking programming was too difficult. After working in accounting, she realized she was capable of much more, and it was time to give coding another try. The Ukrainian invasion in 2022 also pushed her to take control of her future and build a new path for herself. 💪
“After trying myself in a different position as an accountant, I realized I am capable of so much more. The full-scale invasion in Ukraine in 2022 was also a significant motivator for me to take control of my fate and completely change my life.”
She found out about SheCodes through a Ukrainian channel that shared the opportunity for Ukrainian women to join the workshops for free. She had already been exploring coding on her own but needed structure and support. She was instantly drawn to the Delac Foundation’s vibrant branding and its mission to support women in tech. After attending the SheCodes Free Coding Class, Kristina knew she had found the right place to begin again. 💻
👩💻 Her SheCodes Experience
Kristina’s experience with SheCodes was exciting and full of growth. She found the workshops easy to follow, thanks to Matt’s clear and practical teaching style. She found SheCodes extremely user-friendly, making it easier for her to learn new concepts step by step. She especially appreciated the homework challenges, which kept her engaged and helped her build discipline through consistent deadlines. One of Kristina’s favorite moments during the workshops was when her Midnight Weather App project was featured on the SheCodes Instagram. She had spent a lot of time perfecting the project, so seeing it recognized and celebrated by the community was incredibly rewarding. That moment gave her a big confidence boost and reminded her just how far she had come. 🎉

🙋 How SheCodes has Helped to Change Her Life
With SheCodes, Kristina built a strong foundation in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript — a foundation that now supports her every day in her new role as a Frontend Engineer specializing in A/B testing. 🎯 She currently works at Parfümerie Douglas, where she creates and runs tests, performs Document Object Model (DOM) manipulations, sets up Cookie tests, and uses different testing tools to improve the user experience.

👩💼 Advice to Future SheCodes Student
Kristina has thoughtful advice for anyone starting their SheCodes journey: don’t let fear or self-doubt hold you back. 💡 She believes you should never assume you're not good at something unless you've truly given it your all. Instead of worrying about what might go wrong in the future, she encourages new students to focus on what they can do today to move one step closer to their goals.
”You should never think you're not good for something unless you gave it all and put in the effort required to learn/achieve something you truly desire. Have no fear of failure, only focus on the little step towards your goal/dream, that you can do TODAY.”

Beyond gaining new skills, SheCodes brought unexpected joy into Kristina’s life. She found a supportive community of women who share her goals, and she’s excited about the possibility of future collaborations. Meeting new friends through the workshops has been a wonderful bonus — and she’s even hoping to meet some of them in person at the SheCodes HQ in Lisbon one day! 💫

Kristina also enjoys spreading the word about SheCodes to others. She recently introduced the workshops to her UX Designer colleagues, who are now curious about diving into web development themselves. She’s confident that learning to code will open new doors for them, just like it did for her. 🚀
