The Basics Add on Workshop gave me the opportunity to build on what I had already learned in the Basics course. I worked with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript in ways that made more sense than before, especially through the small projects and exercises. Seeing my code actually work and produce results was motivating and helped me understand how different parts fit together. The workshop allowed me to work at my own pace, which was important because it gave me time to fully understand concepts I found tricky. Coding always seemed cool to me, but the thought of going to school and learning it for 3-4 years made me put it off. I discovered SheCodes and joined the free workshop. Turns out, I could learn the basics in just a few weeks as a beginner! I love how the workshop is organized into bite-sized information. This project was a real test. I cannot remember being this frustrated over something I couldn't get right on the get-go or on the first or second try, but I'm blown away that I built a fully functional weather app from the ground up.
I have really enjoyed this course. It was so well-structured, very easy to follow. I really had a fun time with the experience of making the weather app, it's so hands on and I feel like I learnt a lot! I cannot overstate the value of this course.

Learning React has been a monumental feat for me. At first, I found it incredibly challenging β I had to slow down, revisit lessons, and even rebuild the weather app from scratch just to understand what was happening behind the scenes. Debugging felt overwhelming at times, especially when I didnβt understand the error messages popping up on the screen. Along the way, I learned not only how to write React code but also how to think like a developer β how to troubleshoot, stay patient, and celebrate small wins. The SheCodes Plus Add-on was an excellent way to build on what I learned in SheCodes Plus. The World Clock project helped me apply JavaScript concepts to a real-world scenario and better understand how to work with time zones and live data. It was a fun and rewarding challenge that strengthened my coding confidence a lot.
Building this dictionary app was a fantastic deep dive into core React concepts. I went from understanding the theory to applying it in a real, functional project. The foundation was built on breaking the UI into reusable components and managing the flow of information between them using props. A huge part of this project was managing state with the useState hook. I used it for everything from tracking the user's search term to handling loading and error states. I got a lot of practice with rendering dynamic data by mapping over arrays from the API to display lists of definitions, synonyms, and photos. I also implemented more advanced features, like conditional rendering to show results only after a search and handling user events to create an interactive, clickable photo gallery.
